Use of different kinds of chlorinated paraffins

Chlorinated paraffin is a chlorinated derivative of alkanes. It has the advantages of low volatility, flame retardant, good electrical insulation, and low price. It can be used as a flame retardant and PVC auxiliary plasticizer. It is widely used in the production of cable materials, flooring materials, Hose, artificial leather, rubber and other products, as well as additives used in paints, lubricants, etc.

Chlorinated paraffins, also known as chlorinated hydrocarbons, are products made of chlorinated paraffin and chlorinated derivatives of paraffin. According to different chlorine contents, there are three kinds of chlorinated paraffins: chlorinated paraffin -42, chlorinated paraffin -52 and chlorinated paraffin -70. In China's plasticizer series, chlorinated paraffin is the third largest production variety after DOP and DBP.

1. Chlorinated paraffin -42: also known as chlorinated hydrocarbon -42, molecular formula is C25H45CL7, molecular weight is 594 (average), chlorine content is 422%, chlorinated paraffin -42 is a light yellow, clear viscous liquid, odorless, non-toxic, non-flammable, non-explosive, extremely small volatility, non-toxic, insoluble in water and ethanol, but mixed with water to form a stable emulsion, soluble in most organic solvents, the freezing point is below -30, the thermal decomposition temperature is 120, the decomposition generates hydrogen chloride gas, and metal oxides such as zinc and iron will promote its decomposition.

Chlorinated paraffin -42 can be used as anti-coagulation and anti-extreme pressure additives for lubricating oil, as a plasticizer for PVC products, for PVC cable materials, floors, films, plastic shoes, artificial leather and rubber products, and can also be used as anti-coagulation agents for lubricating oil coolant, anti-extrusion additives and paint additives.

2. Chlorinated paraffin -52: also known as chlorinated hydrocarbon -52, molecular formula is C15H26CL6, molecular weight is 420 (average), chlorine content is 502, chlorinated paraffin -52 is a light yellow transparent viscous liquid, odorless, non-toxic, non-flammable, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, soluble in benzene and ether, relative density is 1.235~1.235~1.255(d425), freezing point is below -30, the thermal decomposition temperature is 140, and the refractive index is 1.505~1.515.

Chlorinated paraffin -52 is mainly used in PVC products. As a plasticizer or plasticizer, its compatibility and heat resistance are better than chlorinated paraffin -42. In addition, it can also be used as rubber, paint and cutting oil Additives to prevent fire and improve cutting accuracy can also be used as an anticoagulant and anti-extrusion agent for lubricating oil.

3. Chlorinated paraffin -70: also known as chlorinated hydrocarbon -70, molecular formula is C25H30CL22, molecular weight is 401.42 (average), chlorine content is 702, chlorinated paraffin -70 is white or yellowish powder resin, relative density is 1.65~1.70, softening point is 95 (95~120), insoluble in water and lower alcohol, soluble in aromatic solvents such as mineral oil, benzene, xylene, etc., and not easy to burn.

Chlorinated paraffin -70 has high flame retardancy and is mainly used as a flame retardant for rubber products, calcium-plastic foam decorative boards and polyolefins, surface treatment agents for PVC products, fabrics and packaging materials, and as an adhesive modifier. It is also used as a flame retardant for plastics in ships, vehicles and buildings.
